Two Needle Socks | Volume 93 | Doreen Knitting Books
Step 2: Insert the needle into the next stitch on the front needle purlwise and leave it on the needle. Pull the length of yarn through gently. Step 3: Insert needle into the first stitch on the back needle purlwise, and slip it off the end of the needle. Step 4: Insert the tapestry needle into the next stitch on the back needle knitwise and leave it on the needle. End at the end of your steps so you know where to start up again. Use a crochet hook to adjust the tension of the yarn you have been weaving through the stitches to match your gauge.
Continue to end. Tip: I find an easy way to remember what I am doing after the initial set up row is to say over and over: Knit 1 slip it off, purl 1 leave it on, purl 1-slip it off, knit 1 leave it on.

Round 2: Knit. There must be videos on the internet which would help you. For baby socks I just cast on 24 stitches onto one needle then divide them out 8 per needle on three dp needles. I like clover or bamboo or plastic or anything non metal. Metal is too slippery and I hate having a needle fall right out onto my lap or the floor.

I knit 2 then purl 2 for maybe three inches. Then I put 12 stitches on one needle to work the heel on; the other 12 stitches sit and wait on a stitch holder or another needle. Slip the first stitch then k 1 and slip 1 across your 12 stitches; purl all the way back. Follow the pattern and start picking up the other stitches to work around the top of the heel and down the foot. Oh I forgot that part where you decrease or whatever you do after you do that slip one knit one business which is supposed to strengthen the heel. Now, the thing I do not understand is why no one does anything to strengthen the bottom of the foot near the heel; that is where my husband wears out his cheap cotton socks, always.
My problem is I get impatient near the toes and make my socks too short or overcompensate and make them too long and I know what I should do is measure the foot draw a picture around the foot of the intended sock wearer. That is what a handspinner did who knitted sock for my children once long ago. I still have bits and pieces of her felted wool socks here waiting to be needle felted into some project.
I am not good at explaining but I am a bit far away to just grab you up in my arms and reassure you sock knitting on dp needles can be fun, enjoyable and addictive and rewarding. Much better than a lot of other addictions! You could try to knit them sideways, but you have to kitchener the side seam then. And I haven't found any tutorial without dpns for shaping the toe.
